RENEWABLE RAW MATERIALS
Bamboo is a natural raw material. It has a growth rate of up to 25 cm/day which means large quantities can be harvested annually without endangering the general bamboo stock. Bamboo prevents soil erosion, produces above-average amounts of oxygen and can store extremely large amounts of CO₂. Bamboo has therefore, a very positive influence on the ecological balance. It’s flexibility and light-weight make it particularly suitable for durable products in the children’s and newborn’s sector. Bamboo fibers are also extracted from the plant for textiles to be spun into a very high-quality, soft and skin-friendly yarn, or to be processed further.
Wood is a naturally renewable and biodegradable raw material. As trees grow they act as active climate protectors since wood binds the carbon in the atmosphere and stores approximately a ton of CO₂ per cubic meter. In contrast to the production of engineered raw materials, where fossil fuels are always used, wood is produced exclusively with solar energy. Its processing requires minimal energy and contributes to the reduction of production-related greenhouse gases. Wood can also be recycled in an energy-efficient way.
Organic cotton is an ecological raw material grown with natural fertilizers and pesticides. The cultivation of organic cotton sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. By avoiding the use of chemicals used in agriculture, the yields of organic cotton are usually lower than those from conventional cultivation. Organic cotton is very popular due to its softness, its skin-friendly properties and its extremely low allergy potential. In addition, its fiber is characterized by extraordinary durability, which significantly extends the durability of cotton clothing compared to other fabrics.
COTTON FROM REGENERATIVE, ORGANIC AGRICULTURE
Cotton is one of the most important natural raw materials in global textile production. Yet only 1% of it is currently grown organically. With dramatic consequences for our entire ecosystem. That's why LÄSSIG deliberately relies on organic cotton from certified cultivation. With the help of Raddis® Cotton, the company is also making a long-term investment in regenerative, organic farming that promotes a healthy ecosystem. By working closely with Raddis® Cotton, LÄSSIG not only has the opportunity to improve the livelihoods of needy farming families in growing regions such as South-East India, but also to restore soil health and promote biodiversity.
